Andra and Christopher’s Romanian Orthodox ceremony and backyard wedding reception was filled with a beautiful mix of traditional wedding ritual and casual, contemporary elegance. But we couldn’t overlook Andra’s beautiful custom wedding gown – modeled after a favorite vintage evening gown that belonged to her mother.
Andra and her mother took great care in crafting together all the little details that made up this wedding’s definitive style. This mother of the bride even handmade the
bridal headpiece Anya wore under her veil, using 24k gold tarnished lace remnants from a gown once owned by Andra’s great-grandmother.
Writes Andra, “One of the most important aspects in planning our wedding was to be able to invest in pieces that would stay with us in the future, whether in our home or as part
of our wardrobe.” says Andra. “My mother has a fantastic sense of the aesthetic, and was a tremendous help in crystallizing our vision. I have always loved a very unique black Yohji Yamamoto gown that belongs to my mother. It is the most versatile dress — it can be a beautiful, Grecian-style evening gown or a very cool ankle length dress. It was the perfect look for an afternoon wedding. We had it custom made in an ecru silk/cotton blend.
Andra says that both the bride and groom’s wedding look were influenced by “the ease of the 1920’s clothing”, so she accessorized her bespoke gown with vintage touches such as her grandmother’s white opera gloves, and her Mother’s antique platinum and diamond pin. She donned gold Manolo Blahniks for her ceremony, and swapped them out for cute gold Chloé ballet flats before her reception.
