a baseball themed wedding by leeann marie photography

While most grooms blow off steam before the ceremony by swinging a golf club, it’s not everyday that a guy gets to take his entire wedding party out to the ball game. That’s exactly what went down for Matt and his beautiful bride Shannon. The sports fans and Pennsylvania natives infused their late summer wedding with paraphernalia from America’s favorite past time. From Cracker Jack favors to baseball caps for the groomsmen, Shannon and Matt’s wedding was a major crowd pleaser.

While Matt kept his head in the game, Shannon focused on the style elements of the wedding, including her lace Casablanca gown which set the tone for the rest of the reception decor and florals. “I was going for a vintage/romantic wedding theme,” explains Shannon,  “so I tried to build our entire day around my dress which was lace and champagne  in color. From there, I pretty much took things one step at a time to make the entire theme come together. Most importantly, I couldn’t have done this without the help of my amazing family and friends. The love and support from them made for a wonderful and memorable experience.

Shannon’s gown had an A-line silhouette with an empire waistline wrapped in satin. The neckline was scalloped and the entire gown was adorned with hand-embroidered designs, crystals, Alencon and Chantilly lace. The semi-chapel train was also scalloped at the bottom. Her two-tier, fingertip veil was handmade Alencon lace to match her dress. The bridesmaids wore silk taffeta bow J.Crew dresses in grey.

Writes Shannon, “I wanted my bridesmaid’s personalities shine through in this dress, and I felt this was both fun and flattering. I chose the color “fawn” which was made out of silk taffeta. This fabric and color combination was both neutral and timeless. It really helped to incorporate the romantic/vintage feel to my wedding. The groomsmen were in a classic black tuxedo with a tie and vest to match the beautiful color of the bridesmaid dresses.

Shannon and Matt are by far two of the nicest people I’ve ever worked with! Shannon kept to a beautiful mauve, tan, and light pink color scheme, and each of her bridesmaids was gorgeous in the J Crew dresses. We shot many of their portraits on the baseball field at PNC Park. Matt is a Philadelphia Phillies fan, so shooting with the guys on the Pirates ball park was an adventure and a mix between the two Pennsylvania cities. (Shannon is from Pittsburgh, Matt is from Philly). Matt is the kind of groom that you can tell just wants to take care of Shannon for the rest of their lives. They spent the night dancing and partying away with their sorority and fraternity friends, who were there to dance!
